From procedures to visible leadership
Tayyeb Ayyashi, Health and Safety Manager at Saudi Entertainment Ventures and a JOD participant, describes a shift in perspective through IOSH Leading Safely®. Systems and procedures were in place; he wanted leadership to make safety a visible, shared priority.
“Effective safety leadership goes beyond systems and procedures; it requires visible commitment, open communication and consistent action.” — Tayyeb Ayyashi, Safety leadership in practice.
What he learned
The priorities leaders set, the example they demonstrate and the way they engage teams can shape safety culture and everyday decisions. Listening and shared responsibility became central themes.
The action plan he developed
• Increase leadership involvement through regular site inspections and walk-throughs.
• Review safety performance, key indicators, trends and required improvements in management meetings.
• Have project leaders review and endorse safety objectives as a shared responsibility.
The plan aims to strengthen safety culture, leadership accountability and earlier identification of risks. These are intended benefits of the plan.
Your next step with JOD
Move from recording observations towards influencing priorities, decisions and culture. Begin with leadership diagnosis and a practical action plan.
